What are Royalty Free Music

Royalty Free Music refers to a type of music licensing that allows the user not to pay royalties to use the music.

There are two (2) types that you will come across when shopping for Royalty Free Music online. It’s as follows:

  • One type is where you pay a one-time fee to purchase the music to use it as many times as you want.
  • The other is where you can use it for free and you do not need to pay any fee to use it, but you most likely have to adhere to the provider’s  creative commons license.

What is a Creative Commons License

You may come across the Creative Commons License when searching for Royalty Free Music.  It is another type of license.  With this license you are free to:

  • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
  • The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.

Keep in mind that some creative commons licenses may require that you give credit to the source within your video.  Typically, it means that you have to mention their name or website if you use their music.  This can be easily done by mentioning it as an ending credit in the end of the video.  If the video is uploaded to YouTube or any other video sharing network, you can indicate the credit on the video description section as you upload the video to the network.
