Don’t Get Sued – Use Royalty Free Music for Video Marketing
Read on to find-out a fantastic source for payment FREE music, because just like the title says, “Don’t Get Sued”. You cannot just use any music to your video without official permission. Most things we use in marketing, such as pictures, music and videos that we did not create our self, we cannot assume to use. If it is not your creation, and you use it, you are most likely committing copyright infringement and you can get sued.
Copyright infringement is the use of works protected by copyright law without permission, infringing certain exclusive rights granted to the copyright holder, such as the right to reproduce, distribute, display or perform the protected work, or to make derivative works. – Definition from Wikipedia.org
The good news is there is a way to get music into your video without breaking any copyright laws which does not cost much. There are even sources that will allow you to use the music for free under a license called creative commons, which I explain in this article.
In fact, if you continue to read this post I will also reveal several FREE to use music resources in this article, so you do not have to search around. It is important to read up on creative commons license. Many of these providers use this type of license to allow users to use their music for free. I will explain these license requirements and share the free music resources below.
What are Royalty Free Music
Royalty Free Music refers to a type of music licensing that allows the user not to pay royalties to use the music.
There are two (2) types that you will come across when shopping for Royalty Free Music online. It’s as follows:
- One type is where you pay a one-time fee to purchase the music to use it as many times as you want.
- The other is where you can use it for free and you do not need to pay any fee to use it, but you most likely have to adhere to the provider’s creative commons license.
What is a Creative Commons License
You may come across the Creative Commons License when searching for Royalty Free Music. It is another type of license. With this license you are free to:
- Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
- Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
- The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.
Keep in mind that some creative commons licenses may require that you give credit to the source within your video. Typically, it means that you have to mention their name or website if you use their music. This can be easily done by mentioning it as an ending credit in the end of the video. If the video is uploaded to YouTube or any other video sharing network, you can indicate the credit on the video description section as you upload the video to the network.
